On last night’s episode of I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here, we saw former footballer Jill Scott discuss her love of football as a child, and how she hopes to inspire young girls. In a conversation with journalist Charlene White and TV presenter Scarlette Douglass, Jill spoke of how the parents of other children would make mean comments about her as a female football player when she was young.

Jill explained that she had been playing football since she was five years old, saying that she had “a lot of energy”, while Charlene shared that her three year old daughter is currently showing an interest in the sport.

After the heart-warming conversation between the three women, Ant and Dec provided their commentary, as always. Dec led the discussion saying “Ah I love Jill! Isn’t she lovely?” to Ant, before making a hilarious comment on where Jill is from, saying: “Especially for someone from Sunderland!”

Ant and Dec themselves are from Newcastle, which is known to rival Sunderland, especially when it comes to football - which Ant and Dec are both incredibly passionate about. However, it was clear that the comment towards Jill and Sunderland was made in a playful and joking manner.

Jill Scott is a firm favourite among fans of the show, with many taking to Twitter to express their love for her. One person wrote: “Jill Scott is such an inspiration and role model for young girls.” Others have applauded Jill for her jibe towards Matt Hancock, as she said: “are these guidelines or rules?” when he became camp leader and created rules for camp.
