Geordie legend Tim Healy performs at The 1975 concert in New York

Geordie legend Tim Healy who is the father of The 1975 frontman Matty Healy recently joined his son on stage for an impromptu performance.

71-year-old Tim, is most known for his television and film roles in the likes of Auf Wiedersehen, Pet, Waterloo Road, Benidorm and Purely Belter - and has many more credits to his name, including theatre work.

His son, Matty, who he shares with fellow Geordie actor Denise Welch, has become a star in his own right, after his band The 1975 were founded, and found mainstream success around 2014.

The 1975 recently embarked on two back to back world tours, which they are currently still touring. 

Their first tour At Their Very Best kicked off in 2022, before coming to an end in August 2023. However, the band only took a short break before embarking on a follow-up tour named Still…At Their Very Best in September of this year, which is ongoing until 2024.

During the tours, fans have spotted Matty’s parents Tim and Denise at various concerts, usually singing along in the crowd.

However, at The 1975’s New York concert at the highly-esteemed Madison Square Garden arena, Tim actually joined Matty and the band on stage for an impromptu performance. 

Wearing a suit and dark sunglasses, Tim performed a cover of The 1975’s 2022 track, All I Need To Hear and was met with a positive response from fans of the band.

He has since taken to X (formerly known as Twitter) to thank the fans for the support, as he shared a photo of a younger photo of himself and his son, when Matty was only a small child. 

He captioned the image: “Thank you for all your kind messages, who’d have thought we’d be playing Madison sq garden together 30 years later xxxx”

The post racked up 132.6k views, and fans took to the replies to further praise him for his performance.
