Although the Wallsend-born singer and songwriter does not have a North East location on his list of tour venues, he performed in Scarborough’s Open Air Theatre on Sunday, June 25 - which is as close to home as he gets on the huge tour.

The Geordie singer shot to fame after forming The Police in 1976 alongside drummer Stewart Copeland, after the pair met in Newcastle upon Tyne.

With The Police, Sting had five number one hits, including the likes of Message In A Bottle, Every Breath You Take and Don’t Stand So Close To Me, some of which he performed at his performance in Scarborough.

Of course, the rock icon also performed plenty of his solo tracks, such as Fields of Gold, Fragile and Englishman In New York.

In the crowd, people could be seen wearing Newcastle United shirts, paying homage to Sting’s roots in the city.

Joining Sting on his stage as a support act was his own son, 46-year-old Joe Sumner, as well as Norwegian electro pop star Dagny.
