Sound of the Underground was released in June 2003, peaking at number two on the official UK charts.

The hit album consisted of Girls Aloud’s debut number one single of the same name, as well as their first three singles, Life Got Cold and No Good Advice.

The album was released after Newcastle born Cheryl Tweedy, alongside Kimberley Walsh, Nicola Roberts, Nadine Coyle and Sarah Harding competed on Popstars: The Rivals in 2002, and secured themselves a place in the girl group.

The band then competed for a Christmas number one against the boy band formed on the show, One True Voice, and won.

Girls Aloud went on to have an incredible success as a five-piece and respective solo careers.

The re-release will not only celebrate 20 years since the album was released but also pay tribute to Girls Aloud member, Sarah Harding who sadly passed away from breast cancer in 2021, aged 39 years old.

The special release includes exclusive vinyl editions of the album and single, which includes alternative vocals to the original. Also included in the release is brand-new merchandise including hoodies and t-shirts.

The music video for the Sound of the Underground has also been re-mastered in 4K, which is now available to watch on YouTube.

Members of the band including Nadine Coyle, Nicola Roberts and Kimberley Walsh posted the announcement to their individual Instagram accounts. Cheryl Tweedy is yet to comment on the re-release.
