A Newcastle restaurant has followed in the footsteps of its sister restaurant, by making it into the Michelin Guide less than four months after opening.

Osters opened in November 2023 on Gosforth High Street and since day one has received rave reviews for its imaginative menu and its use of fish and seafood.

And now the restaurant has been praised by one of the highest authorities in the country, after receiving notice of its inclusion in the latest edition of the Michelin Guide.

Osters is sister restaurant to Lovage at St George’s Terrace, Jesmond, which also made it straight into the guide in around the same time scale last year and has also won praise from diners and national food critics.

Chef Kleo Tabaku is delighted that the passion that he and the team imbue into the food at Osters has been recognised and that its commitment to using seasonal ingredients with a strong emphasis of fish and seafood.

The menu draws inspiration from across the globe – from Europe to the Far East – but also has a distinct local flavour, with Kleo regularly foraging fresh ingredients each morning which are on the menu by lunch time.

And the Guide praised the restaurant for its “prime fish and shellfish.”

“The chefs are aware of the quality of their ingredients,” it said, “eschewing overcomplication in favour of simple combinations – like Pink Fir potatoes, tenderstem and beurre blanc accompanying a generous helping of sea trout.”

Kleo has also put its success down to the hard work of his co-owner and partner, Lisa Hide, who runs the front of house.

“We were thrilled when Lovage got into the Michelin guide and to have Osters now added too is a real testament to the hard work the teams at both restaurants,” said Kleo.

“We have stayed true to our vision of restaurants which offer authentic flavours and use the freshest of ingredients and we are delighted that this has been recognised.”

Osters was one of two restaurants from the region to be introduced to the guide this year, with the Baltic Art Gallery’s SIX Restaurant also being being awarded a place.
