A Gosforth restaurant is celebrating after finding out they have been included in a prestigious wine listing guide.

Ophelia, which is located on Bowsden Terrace in South Gosforth, has been featured in The Star Wine List White Star listings, which is an award recognising venues that have interesting and unique wine lists.

In order to be featured in the wine list guide, the venues will be visited by The Star Wine’s team or ambassador who will conduct a continuous stringent evaluation process.

The independent premier guide awards venues with either a Red Star or White Star status, with Ophelia being awarded with a White Star.

While the Star Wine List was established in the UK, it now covers wine bars and restaurants from 40 countries on all continents, with over 27,00 wine lists that are available for the public to view via their app or website.

They also run a round of yearly awards in each of the countries, The Star Wine List of the Year, which rewards the top wine lists and recognises the work and dedication done to create the lists.

Ophelia’s General Manager Matt Francombe, said: ‘’We’re really happy to achieve White Star status from the Star Wine List. It goes some way to recognising the work we’ve done in pulling together a really interesting wine programme.”

“We’ve taken a great deal of care sourcing from among our favourite regional vineyards, predominantly from France, to deliver wines that marry perfectly with Nick’s French inspired regional cuisine. We’ll continue to push and hope that in the fullness of time we can achieve further recognition for our wine list.’’
