Gosforth restaurant Ophelia celebrate two huge achievements

The North East restaurant and their head sommelier have been included in two coveted lists.

A restaurant in Gosforth has been recognised for their exceptional service, as they have been included in

Ophelia, which can be found on Bowsden Terrace in South Gosforth were nominated to feature in the list by members of the public, who voted for their favourite restaurants in the region.

To secure a place on the coveted list, the restaurant was then visited by an inspector from The Good Food Guide, to determine who deserved a place on the final shortlist.

The Good Food Guide’s list of Britain’s Best 100 Local Restaurants was originally devised 13 years ago, to celebrate the eateries that are central to the local communities they serve.

The Good Food Guide said of Ophelia: “The menu represents a commitment to good eating. From snacks of crispy chicken skin with rouille through to superlative desserts, this really is high-quality cooking that’s refined but comforting, backed by a well-chosen French led wine list and warm assured service.’’

They continued: “Ophelia is fancy enough to feel like a treat but simple enough you could eat there every week.’’

Ophelia chef patron Nick Grieves said: “We’re all pretty speechless that we’ve been included in the list of Britain’s Best 100 Local Restaurants, we had absolutely no idea but it’s totally brilliant and really acknowledges all the hard work and dedication the team have put in since we opened Ophelia earlier this year.

“Everyone involved in the restaurant makes a huge contribution, delivering excellent food and service, which sees our guests coming back time and time again.’’

But their inclusion on The Good Food Guide’s list is not the only reason Ophelia have to celebrate, as their head sommelier Anna Frost has been named in Harper’s Top 25 Sommeliers list for 2023.

Frost said: “I’m thrilled to have been included in Harper’s Top 25 Sommeliers list, it’s a huge honour to be recognised alongside some of the best in the industry.

“I’m massively passionate about wine and love being able to share my knowledge with our customers, and help them discover new and interesting wines when they dine with us.’’
