Great North Run ballot opens: How to enter and how many places are there?

The largest half marathon is now available to enter.

After initially teasing the event's ballot will open at some point in January 2024, the Great North Run organisers have officially opened up the options to prospective runners for the incredible event.

With 60,000 entrants the event continues to be the UK’s biggest running event and the world’s biggest half marathon and the ballot is one of three ways for the public to enter.

How can I enter the Great North Run Ballot?

The ballot is hosted on the Great North Run website. When looking to register, any runners simply need to follow the instructions when entering.

These include standard information such as the entrant's name, contact details and more as well as an expected finish time and more race-day information.

When does the Great North Run Ballot close?

The ballot will close at 10am on Monday, February 12.

How much does the Great North Run cost to enter?

All runners entering through the ballot will need to give their bank details to the organisers in case they are successful. If they are awarded a place £62 will be taken in payment.

Any unsuccessul ballot entrants will not see any money taken from their account.

All entrants will receive a confirmation email shortly after they complete their registration.

All entrants of the ballot will receive an email confirming whether or not they have been successful after the ballot is drawn.
