Many incredibly talented and hugely successful people hail from the North East - and we are so proud to call them ours. The likes of Sam Fender, Ant and Dec, Cheryl, Sting have all started in the North East and gone on to have amazing careers in the entertainment industry.

We want to celebrate their hard work and talent by taking a look back at the awards they have won for their careers.

When you think of Geordie’s winning awards - your mind surely goes to Ant and Dec, who have won 21 National Television Awards in a row for Best Presenter. The list of Ant and Dec’s award wins is huge, as they have also picked up Royal Television Society Awards, British Academy Children’s Awards, TV Choice Awards, BAFTAS, TRIC Awards, British Comedy Awards and so much more. The presenting duo have won over 40 awards at the NTAs in total.

Sam Fender

North Shields-born musician Sam Fender may have only shot to fame in the music industry in the past few years, but he has already had an incredibly successful career, and picked up some impressive awards. Fender’s first win was a BRIT award for Critics Choice Awards. He has also won a BRIT for Best British Alternative/Rock Act. He has also won an Ivor Nello award, two NME awards, Rolling Stone UK award and so much more.

Little Mix

As a group (where two of them hail from South Shields), Little Mix have picked up 56 awards in total within their 11 year career. Most notably, the group have won three BRIT awards, and became the first girl group to win Best Group at The BRITS. They have also won Teen Choice Awards, Radio Disney Awards, MTV Awards, Japan Gold Disc Awards and many more.

Chris and Rosie Ramsey

South Shields podcasting duo, Chris and Rosie Ramsey have won various awards for their podcast Sh**ged, Married, Annoyed, including a National Comedy Award, ARIA award, British Podcast award and Global award and more. The married couple are currently nominated for National Comedy Awards for their podcast and their BBC TV show.

Cheryl

Geordie pop icon Cheryl has picked up many awards for her solo work including Heat Magazine awards, Glamour Women of the Year award, Cosmopolitan awards and more. With Girls Aloud, Cheryl won a BRIT award for Best British Single, Capital FM award, Disney Channel award and more.

Sting

Wallsend-born Sting (real name Gordon Sumner) has picked up a total of 47 awards throughout his career as a solo artist and with The Police including American Music Awards, Grammy Awards, MTV Video Music Awards, Billboard Music Awards and Ivor Nello Awards. He also won a Primetime Emmy award for a live concert performance. Sting has also been inducted on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
