I tried a Newcastle themed afternoon tea and got the full Geordie experience in a meal
The city centre’s Royal Station Hotel on Neville Street has started a Newcastle themed afternoon tea experience.
Named AfterToon Tea, the offerings include options both made in and inspired by the region and we were invited to check out what was on offer.

The afternoon tea is available from Friday, December 6 and costs £27.95 per person.
This cost would turn out to be hugely impressive value for money. The site, which is situated directly next to Newcastle’s Central Station was easy enough to get to and we were sat down quickly with black and white napkins already adorning the table.
Getting a glass of prosecco upon arrival, we checked out the full menu to see hwo the team at the site had been able to craft a full afternoon tea experience with a Geordie twist.
For the sake of structure, we’ll run through the review as we ran through the menu.

The savouries offered a stunning start which, alongside some coffee was a brilliant opening. Being vegetarian, the ham and pease pudding was switched but the stotties and Pan Haggerty pie left us desperate to not only continue our way through the meal, but to find out more about what makes each part of the meal specific to the region.
After a couple of scones we worked our way into the cakes which were numerous. Kicking off with the Brown Ale brownie, which was stunning, if slightly rich, the victoria sponge quickly sorted us out.
From the start we had been drawn to the Lucozade cheesecake, which seemed to almost glow in the light of our window overlooking Neville Street. The drinks brand was born in Newcastle and remains popular throughout the city, as it now is across the wider UK. The bright orange wasn’t offputting and that was quickly devoured too, followed by peach melba and the crumble.

The menu was a lot for two people and the copious amount of coffee which was helping keep us going was no longer helping as the sheer amount of food was starting to settle, but we were happily full and most definitely satisfied, as much as it was a struggle to stay awake on the Metro on the way home!
Bookings are still available for the AfterToon Tea experience at the Royal Station Hotel - and we would thoroughly recommend it if you get the chance! This can be booked through the hotel’s website.
