‘I was crying my eyes out’ Newcastle United fan wins £5.4m bet from £1.40 spin

A Newcastle United fan won a life-changing amount of money on a £1.40 spin on a Betfred game.

32-year-old Michael Clark from Newcastle, works as a careworker. He won a whopping £5.4 million, which is the biggest payout in Betfred’s 56 year history.

Michael secured the jackpot and became a millionaire after playing a £1.40 spin on the King Kong Cashpots game.

Michael told Betfred of the shock of his win, as he said: “I would have never dreamed of hitting the jackpot but that’s what’s happened.

“At first I thought I won £5,000 and I was happy with that but to hit the jackpot was just mind blowing. I rang my mum and dad and I was crying my eyes out. I couldn’t help it because it was a big win and it was overwhelming.” Michael’s family have given him the hilarious nickname of “Mickey Millions” due to his win.

Michael, who has been engaged to his fiance Sherelle Pooley for seven years, is a huge Newcastle United fan, and hopes to use the money towards the wedding. He hopes to book St James’ Park as the venue for his upcoming wedding. He said: “It would be a beautiful venue and I’ve looked at some of the wedding packages, so to do one of them would be amazing.”  He also would like to use his winnings to upgrade Sherelle’s engagement ring.

Michael has decided to take a break from working within the care industry, with well wishes and congratulations from his employers. Michael hopes to prolong his fortune and secure his family’s future by investing in the property market.

Michael said of his future goals: “If I can continue my fortune and leave a legacy for my kids then that will be life complete. Your job in life is to enjoy yourself and set your kids up. I’m 32 years old and I feel like I can do that already, so it’s still mind blowing.”
