Despite only coming on towards the end of the second half, Jacob Murphy had a huge impact in Newcastle United’s 5-1 win against Aston Villa- notably assisting Harvey Barnes’ debut goal.

However, as United fans know, his off-pitch antics is where the footballer has solidified himself as a cult hero. His main arena? Lurking in the comments section of his teammates’ Instagram comments.

His main target? Anthony Gordon.

Last season the 28-year-old was incredibly active in Gordon’s comments, dubbing him ‘Starboy Malfoy’, a joke which progressed and morphed into even sillier comments such as ‘Expelliarmus bro.’

And yesterday Murphy continued his efforts albeit in a more cryptic way.

Underneath the 22-year-old’s post commemorating Newcastle’s win, Murphy commenting ‘Dinky doo 😮‍💨🔥’

Now, I’m not going to pretend to understand exactly what this means. However ‘dinky’ is used to describe something small and delicate. A lovable roast between teammates perhaps, or, rather, Murphy might be complimenting Gordon’s incredibly agile and graceful performance at St James’ Park.

Incredibly, there is also another option. Dinky Doo is in fact a My Little Pony character. A purple cartoon with a blonde main, hilariously, it’s quite easy to see the comparison.

One thing is for certain, however, and that is I can’t wait for Jacob Murphy silliness week-on-week.
