Newcastle man Daniel Wadcock was driving when he spotted a distressed man standing at the side of a bridge in Cramlington.

He decided to safely pull over and call 999.

Emergency services confirmed they were on their way, however kind-hearted Daniel decided he would stay with the man while he waited for help. He did this by making his way to the bridge, and cautiously approached the lone man before gently engaging in conversation with him.

When officers arrived, the man had grown so comfortable with Daniel, that he only wanted to talk to him.

Thanks to Daniel’s patience and empathy, the man came back to safety and officers arranged support for him.

“I am full of praise for Daniel, he truly is an example of the very best the North East has to offer.”

He added: “Though it’s not always appropriate for a member of the public to intervene, a stranger’s kindness can mean the world to someone during a vulnerable moment, and Daniel did absolutely the right thing.

“Thank you Daniel for your quick-thinking but most of all, for the kindness you were able to show a person who needed some in that moment.”

If you see someone in a similar situation, in distress or danger and believe they need help, call 999.
