Looking for a job over Christmas in 2023? These are some of the positions available in Newcastle

Christmas and the build up to the festive season can be an ideal opportunity for members of the public to pick up temporary jobs while employers are needing additional bodies in the workplace.

In addition to regular seasonal retail jobs, many options are available across Newcastle within Royal Mail or those who want to work as santa or elves are also available.

These are some of the top temporary Christmas jobs across the city and beyond.

Seasonal Mail Sorters, Royal Mail

Role: Based in Gateshead, any applicants are expected to be able to work in a fast paced environment with tight deadlines to help sort mail and play a part of the process to get Christmas cards and presents delivered.

Hours: Typical shift patterns include lates (between 2pm and 10pm), nights (between 10pm and 6am) and earlies (between 6am and 2pm). The application form asked potential employees when they would prefer to work.

Wage: £13.63 per hour for late shifts, £14.81 per hour for night shifts and £12.29 per hour for early shifts.

Role: This is a traditional Christmas role which is returning for 2023 at a huge name for Christmas retail in Newcastle. The right candidate is expected to be a strong communicator who loves Christmas and working with children. A performing arts or theatre background is also desirable.

Hours: Part time hours, eight to 37.5 hours per week

Christmas Temporary Sales Advisor, Warren James

Role: The jewellery chain is looking for temporary staff to create a welcoming atmosphere in store and maximise sales opportunities across the Christmas period. The role also includes day to day housekeeping of the shop.

Festive colleague, Tesco

The supermarket chain is looking for people across Tyneside to assist across the store at the busiest time of the year. Staff will be responsible for providing support to other staff from serving customers and putting together click and collect orders to stocking shelves.

Hours: Minimum of 12 hours per week, although roles with a minimum of 7.5 hours per week are also available.

Wage: Between £11.02 and £11.75 per hour.

Staying in retail, the company’s Byker site is looking for temporary associates to assist across the store. This may include supporting customers, working on the tills and more.

Hours: 12 to 16 hours per week between Monday and Sunday.
