St James’ Park was packed out at the weekend for Sam Fender’s two sold-out homecoming gigs but that didn’t stop Newcastle United fans doing a recce of the area to try and spot any new developments in their absence.

In March it was announced United would trial safe standing for a period at the start of next season. After sending out a survey to supporters, 1,800 in the South East Corner of the stadium will test the licensed standing. It will also be implemented for some away fans on Level 7 of the Leazes end.

Howevers, others got more sentimental: “Wonder If I can have my seat as a souvenir,” with another focusing on the clubs finances: “The club should sell off those seats.. FFP and all that.”
