The man was charged this morning
A man has been charged with murder in the investigation into the death of a 47-year-man in Newcastle on Saturday.
Just before 2:20 pm on Saturday, December 4, officers were alerted to a report of concern for a male at an address at Church Walk House in Walker.
Emergency services attended the scene where a man was suffering from life-threatening injuries caused by a bladed article.
Attempts to save his life were made, but he was later confirmed to have died at the scene.
The victim has since been named as Paul Wilkinson from Walker.
His family are currently being supported by specialist officers.
A murder investigation was launched following the incident and a 52-year-old man was arrested and taken into custody.
Now the man, named as Dean Johnson of no fixed abode, has been charged with murder.
He appeared at Newcastle Magistrates’ Court this morning and has been remanded until he is next due to appear at Newcastle Crown Court on December 8.
Detective Inspector Graeme Barr, from Northumbria Police’s Major Investigation Team (MIT), said: “Our thoughts continue to be with Paul’s family at this incredibly distressing time.
“We have deployed specially-trained officers who are supporting them and I would like to ask that you respect their privacy as they attempt to come to terms with what has happened.
“Our investigation is ongoing and our officers will remain in the area today continuing with their enquiries.
