Man in custody after being arrested at North Tyneside lighthouse with 'imitation firearm'

Police were called to a Northumberland town on Wednesday morning following reports of suspicious activity.
The man, who started his journey in Ashington, then travelled to the coast where he was arrested.

Hide AdA Northumbria Police spokesperson said: "Shortly after 11.20am today (Wednesday), we received multiple reports of suspicious activity in the Ashington area.
"It was reported that a male travelling in a vehicle was believed to be in possession of a firearm.

"A short time later, the man – aged in his 60s - was located in the area of St Mary's Lighthouse in Whitley Bay.
"He was found in possession of an imitation firearm and arrested.
