Meet Joseph Larkin, a 27-year-old from South Shields who decided to start a business teaching, supporting and inspiring people to run. Joseph started the running programme, which he named Believe To Run after experiencing what he described as “rock bottom” after facing challenges in his life.

Running helped Joseph discover his strength, and he wanted to do the same for other people. Therefore, he decided to take a risk by quitting his office job, in order to bring his idea to life. “I’ve always enjoyed the feeling knowing that I have helped someone in one way or another, and this gave me the courage to start Believe To Run,” he said. His main aim is to help people who struggle with fitness or their mental health through running.

Joseph tailors the Believe To Run experience based on the person’s needs. “I ask questions regarding their fitness and wellbeing so that I know what is best for them,” he said. Joseph offers group sessions as well as one on ones, and also online coaching programmes. In the first session, Joseph sets a plan for the individual, with goals to reach. “We always achieve the goal,” he proudly admitted.

Joseph explained how he has taught people with no running experience to be able to run 5 to 10K, and helped people to train for the Great North Run. He also went on to speak about the group sessions, explaining that running with other people can be a great way to socialise, as well as an opportunity to support one another. He said: “I have built a positive and friendly community, they all help each other.”

Having only started Believe To Run in April of this year, Joseph has goals and future plans he is working towards achieving. “I want to keep growing and showing everyone in the North East what I can do, and what running can do for you,” he said.

Believe To Run currently have a Christmas deal, which is £39.99 for unlimited group sessions until December 31 and up to 40% of all plans.
