Met Office issues three-day weather warning for Newcastle starting TODAY

The region is set to be hit by three days worth of rainstorms.

Geordies are being told to brace themselves for heavy rain over a period of three days, starting from today.

The Met Office has issued a weather warning for the region that "persistent and at times heavy rain" will batter Tyneside on Wednesday.

The weather warning was issued on Tuesday morning and came with a secondary warning that heavy rain would continue into Thursday and Friday.

It means that, when combined, Newcastle is under a state of weather warning from 6 am on Wednesday, October 27 to 11:59 pm on Friday, October 29, a three day period.

Here's what the Met Office has said.

Wednesday, October 27

There is a yellow weather warning for rain across the North East on Wednesday.

The Met Office said: "Persistent and at times heavy rain is expected to cause impacts from Wednesday morning.

"In general, 40-80 mm is expected within the warning area but 140-180 mm is likely over high ground with as much as 200 mm in some locations during Wednesday.

"There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded, causing damage to some buildings.

"There is a small chance of fast flowing or deep floodwater causing danger to life.

"Where flooding occurs, there is a slight chance of delays or cancellations to train and bus services.

"Spray and flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures.

"There is a small chance that some communities will become cut off by flooded roads."

Thursday, October 28 and Friday, October 29

The persistent and heavy rain is set to continue into Thursday and Friday.

The Met Office stated: "Persistent and at times heavy rain is expected to continue to cause impacts from through Thursday and Friday.

"In general, a further 30-60 mm is expected within the warning area but 80-100 mm is likely over high ground with as much as 150 mm in some locations.

"This is in addition to high rainfall totals over the previous 24 hours."
