The Met Office is predicting an entire day of heavy rain, starting at 3 am and continuing until 11 pm.

As a result, a weather warning for rain has been issued that will remain in place from 2 am on Tuesday until midnight on Wednesday, October 6.

The Met Office said: "Heavy and persistent rain is likely to lead to disruption to transport.

"Rain, accompanied with strengthening winds, will move north and eastwards across the area early on Tuesday, becoming slow-moving over parts of northeast England and, later, also eastern England.

"15-30 mm of rain is expected to fall quite widely. Over eastern and northeastern England, 40-50 mm of rain is likely to fall in some parts with 50-75 mm also possible in a few spots.

"What to expect; a few homes and businesses flooded; bus and train services affected with journey times taking longer; spray and flooding on roads will make journey times longer."

The Met Office is forecasting that the rain will stay away from Newcastle after Tuesday.

Wednesday is set to be largely dry with highs of 14 degrees and lows of 10.

It will then hot up even more on Thursday and Friday with highs of 19 degrees and lows of 13.

Looking ahead to the weekend, the city will again stay dry with no rain on the cards.
