NE1 Summer in the City: Programme of events announced

NE1 have unveiled their programme of events and activities taking place in the city this summer.

The programme, which is named NE1 Summer in the City, consists of over 135 free and fun events and activities which can be enjoyed by all of the family, taking place each day on the Quayside and at Old Eldon Square.

After a successful 2022, with over 30,000 people taking part in NE1 Summer in the City events and activities, the brand-new programme for 2023 will see the return of city favourites as well as new additions.

Rachel Barlow, Marketing and Events Manager at NE1 Ltd said: “We’re tremendously excited and proud to be launching this year’s Summer in the City programme to give people of all ages something free to enjoy and to look forward to during the school summer holidays, and to know that every day there will be something different happening in the heart of Newcastle.

“We have put together an enormous programme of over 135 events, which caters for people of all ages and abilities, it is the biggest and best yet.”

Here are just a few of NE1’s events and activities you can participate in this summer in Newcastle.

Historical city tours

City tours across the historical locations in Newcastle will return for 2023, which will include rare access visits to the city’s famous landmarks such as Grey’s Monument, and the Victoria Tunnel which provided shelter to Newcastle residents during the air raids of World War II.

Free fitness sessions

In collaboration with The City Baths and Pure Gym, NE1 will provide free fitness sessions on the Quayside. The sessions will be catered to all ages and abilities. Fitness activities will include an Age Well programme, HIIT Body Combat, Pilates, and Zumba.

Dance classes

Another collaboration guaranteed to get the people of Newcastle moving is between NE1 and Dance City. The dance school will provide a range of classes on the Quayside, from hip hop to Bollywood - and everything in between!

Screen on the Green

The hugely popular and well loved city event, Screen on the Green has already returned to Newcastle for the summer and will remain in place until Sunday, September 3. The free open air movie theatre will show live sporting events as well as movie screenings across the summer.
