New ‘enchanted’ light trail to open in Newcastle city centre this Christmas

Northern Lights is set to become Newcastle’s own light trail as it opens in Leazes Park this November.

Northern Lights Newcastle is set to be a brand new immersive light trail which will “enthral” visitors with an after-dark attraction of immersive visuals, audio and illuminations.

The festival of light will include original audio compositions, dynamic choreography and intelligent design to create a 90-minute experience for the whole family to enjoy.

The mile-long route in Leazes Park will be fully accessible and will feature a Christmas Village filled with festive food and drinks from local vendors.

Northern Lights Newcastle, which has been created by the family-owned business ‘From the Fields’, will open on November 23 and run for five weeks until January 1.

Roxy Robinson, creative director at From the Fields, has expressed her pride at being able to bring the experience to Leazes Park.

She said: “It’s fantastic to have the opportunity to launch our incredible light trail in the heart of Newcastle this winter.

“We have big plans and cannot wait to deliver an experience like no other; one that welcomes everyone to come together and soak up the magic of Christmas through a trail of illuminations and audio, within the beautiful Leazes Park in Newcastle.

Northern Lights Newcastle will feature between 10 and 12 light attractions across a mile-long loop around illuminated parkland, starting and ending at the southern park entrance, via Barrack Road.

During the 90-minute event, visitors can also enjoy vintage fairground rides and a variety of festive treats to get them in the Christmas spirit.

The entire route will allow wheelchair-accessible paths, seating areas and ramp access points.

Special provisions will also be in place to reserve ‘access’ time slots, where quieter audio and reduced visitor numbers aim to support neuro-divergent visitors

The organisers have also confirmed there will be queue jump wristbands available for those with additional needs.
