Newcastle’s People's Kitchen is launching its annual "Feed a Friend for a Fiver" campaign, aiming to bring warmth, kindness, and a hot meal to vulnerable and homeless individuals across the North East this Christmas.

As the demand for its services continues to rise due to the cost of living crisis, The People's Kitchen is once again asking the public to help make a difference during the festive season.

Entirely volunteer-led, The People’s Kitchen serves around 250 to 300 meals daily to those in need, offering not just food but also friendship and support. For many, The People’s Kitchen is a place of refuge—where they can find comfort, companionship, and access to critical services such as housing, welfare, and medical support.

The "Feed a Friend for a Fiver" campaign invites people to donate just £5, which will provide a hot Christmas dinner to someone who might otherwise go without. The funds raised will also help The People’s Kitchen continue providing meals throughout the winter months, ensuring no one has to face hunger or isolation during the coldest time of the year.

‘Christmas can be difficult’

Maggie Pavlou, Trustee of The People's Kitchen, said: “Christmas can be a particularly difficult time for many people, especially those facing homelessness or hardship. Our 'Feed a Friend for a Fiver' campaign is a simple but powerful way to show that someone cares. Last year, we were overwhelmed by the incredible generosity of our community, and this year, we hope to continue that spirit of giving to help even more people in need."

Since its founding over 35 years ago, The People's Kitchen has remained committed to supporting the North East community. Relying entirely on donations and local support, the charity has become a crucial lifeline for many—providing not only meals but also a sense of belonging in a safe, welcoming environment.
