Newcastle Christmas market: Opening times, dates and closed roads
Halloween and October half term are out the way, we’ve all enjoyed firework displays across the region and how it is the turn of Christmas.
Traditionally on Tyneside, the festive season gets underway with the Christmas lights switch on in the city centre, with the Christmas market following soon after - and this year is no different.

When is the Christmas lights switch on in Newcastle?
This year the Christmas light switch on returns to the top of Grey Street on Tuesday, November 12.
Steve and Karen from Hts Radio North East will be joined by panto stars from the Theatre Royal’s production of The Little Mermaid.
The main moment will happen just before 7pm when Christmas gets underway in the city centre.

The city centre market returns to Newcastle this month as the build up to December 25 continues.

Hide AdThis year the festive market opens for business on Saturday, November 16 and will run until Sunday, December 22 - the final weekend before Christmas Day, which falls on a Wednesday this year.
The majority of the market stalls wil return to Monument and Grey Street, as will the popular alpine bar.
This year organisers are promising more at Old Eldon Square, with a traditional carousel, a towering illuminated Christmas tree as well as food stalls.
Previous years have seen stalls open at 11am and close at 8pm daily from Monday to Saturday, with an earlier closing time of 5pm on Sundays. This is expected to remain the same this year.

Hide AdAre roads closed in Newcastle city centre for Christmas events this year?
The system to show roadworks and closed roads across Newcastle shows a major closure for festive activities this year. This runs from Wednesday, November 13 until Monday, December 23 and is in place for the Christmas market.
Grey Street will be closed between Blackett Street and Market Stree. Grainger Street will be closed between its junctions of Nelson Street and Blackett Street while Eldon Square will be closed from its junction with Blackett Street northward for its full length.
