The study analysed factors that may affect Newcastle’s sleep, including noise, light pollution and commuter traffic.

Research from Dormeo also broke down the residents’ rate of exercise, average minutes commuting to work in the morning and rate of noise levels of 40dB per night.

Data showed that 55.7% of residents exercise 2.5 hours a week, and that the average commute to work is only 19.5 minutes every morning.

While Newcastle didn’t rank so well for sleep rates, the physical health score was significantly higher, ranking in ninth place.

The environmental score was much lower, with Newcastle ranked in 18th out of 22 places.

Dormeo said that exercising regularly, decluttering your bedroom and limiting caffeine and alcohol intake during the day and especially the night could help with sleep improvements.
