Newcastle theatre to host family-friendly shows to entertain youngsters over the summer holidays

One of Newcastle’s top theatre venues, the Tyne Theatre and Opera House have unveiled a programme of family-friendly shows to enjoy with the little ones over the summer holidays.

A trio of child-friendly shows will be heading to Newcastle in the coming months, guaranteed to keep the kids entertained while off school for the summer, right up until September.

The first show to perform at the Tyne Theatre and Opera House is Dinosaur Adventure Live, which will be at the city centre venue on Tuesday, August 1 with two performances on the day at 2pm and 4.30pm.

Dinosaur Adventure Live will introduce some of the most incredible species to have lived on planet earth to the audience, providing “an unforgettable Jurassic experience”, to the dino fans in attendance. The show will have interactive elements for the children, including meet and greets with the dinosaurs and dino-facts.

Much loved Cbeebies TV show In The Night Garden will be brought to life in the form of a live show, where characters Igglepiggle, Upsy Daisy and Makka Pakka will take to the stage for their fun-filled live show, Igglepiggle’s Busy Day. The show will also feature the flying Pinky Ponk soaring over the audience.

In The Night Garden Live will be at Tyne Theatre and Opera House over two days, on Saturday, August 26 and Sunday, August 27.

The final show from Tyne Theatre and Opera House children’s programme of events is Tales From Acorn Wood, which will be at the theatre on Tuesday, September 26 and Wednesday, September 27.

Tales From Acorn Wood, is based on the beloved story book series written by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Axel Scheffler. The stories will be brought to life on the stage alongside music and puppetry.

Theatre Director Jo Johnson commented: “Our line-up of family-friendly shows keeps growing every year! We are sure that parents won’t be stuck this summer as our selection is bound to excite children, from kids who want to meet dinosaurs to little ones who can see their favourite TV and book characters come to life.”
