For just a £5 donation to the charity, people can provide a warm Christmas meal. People will also have the chance to soak up a warm and friendly atmosphere in the Cathedral's cafe afterwards which will be open to keep warm and have a chat.

Donations can be made via the NE offers website.

Chris Tubman, from NE offers, said: "'In recent times, there has been a significant rise in the utilization of food banks within our region. Initially triggered by the pandemic, which led to widespread job losses and financial hardships for individuals unaccustomed to seeking aid from food banks, this trend has persisted due to the ongoing cost of living crisis. This strain continues to place immense pressure on the food banks in our area. However, it's the unwavering support of the North East community that has prevented these food banks from being completely overwhelmed, enabling them to carry out their crucial work."

In the past year, over 80% of Changing Lives services had seen an increase in the number of people who were no longer able to make ends meet.

Starting as a soup kitchen in 1970, the charity now operates nationally and supports people who are experiencing homelessness, unemployment, in recovery or facing abuse or exploitation.

"This Christmas, Newcastle Cathedral is extending a heartfelt invitation, opening its doors to offer a warm and festive meal in a welcoming environment, ensuring that everyone, irrespective of their circumstances, can partake in a joyous Christmas celebration," continued Chris.

"For just £5—a mere equivalent to the price of a high street coffee or disposable Christmas cards—you can  provide a warm Christmas meal and assist the charity in their invaluable efforts within our region."
