North East parkrun: Which events are on for Christmas Day 2022 and New Year’s Day 2023 in Newcastle and nearby

Getting a parkrun in before the chaos of Christmas Day or after the shenanigans of New Year's Eve is a tradition for many in the North East.

There's a huge sense of community amongst parkrunners, whether they run, walk, push a buggy or get dragged around by a four-legged friend on the popular 5 km routes. Newcastle, Tyneside, Gateshead and Northumberland are particularly blessed with a wealth of courses on our doorstep.

Usually, parkrun volunteers manage to pull off additional events on Christmas Day and New Year's Day with many wanting to get in a little exercise and see parkrun friends before festivities. However, this year is a little different with both those days falling on a Sunday.

parkrun events always run on a Saturday at 9 am and for the volunteers, who already put in so many hours into organising parkrun, turning out for four events in eight days is a big ask.

As such, parkrun HQ has left it up to each individual course to decide whether or not to hold an event on Christmas Day and New Year's Day. Below you can scroll through every parkrun in Newcastle, Gateshead, North Tyneside, South Tyneside and Northumberland to plan your schedule.
