Newcastle City Council and NE1 have worked together to ensure local people can pay their respects to the Queen collectively, as a city, by watching the state funeral together.

The Lord Mayor of Newcastle, Councillor Karen Robinson said: “We have seen a huge outpouring of grief, both across the city and throughout the country following the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

“People will have their own preference of how and where they will watch the funeral, but I am pleased they can choose to watch this together with others if this is their wish, and hopefully find comfort from this.”

There will be seating available, however it is limited. There will be available standing space around the square. The exact times of the coverage has yet to be confirmed by TV broadcast schedules.
