The Sheffield-based band have become one of Britain’s biggest rock exports in recent years, after first playing at the city’s music venue called ‘The Grapes’ on 3 June 2003. Alex Turner, who famously dated Alexa Chung, stepped nervously on to stage before impressing the crowds with his vocals and on-stage enthusiasm.

The legendary band formed in 2002 were one of the first bands to find fame via the internet and word of mouth. Their original Myspace account was set up by fans of the band who wanted to spread their musical success.

Arctic Monkeys made demos and distributed them for free as a way of getting people to hear their music, saying:"we never made those demos to make money or anything. We were giving them away free anyway – that was a better way for people to hear them."

Their huge success continued and they signed up to Domino. The band said they were attracted to the ethics behind the brand and like the fact that the owner, Laurence Bell, ran the label from his flat and only signed bands that he liked personally.
