Cheryl set for charts return with Girls Aloud 20th anniversary album release

Girls Aloud have announced their return with a 20th anniversary edition of their debut album Sound of the Underground.

The reissue will mark two decades since Cheryl Tweedy, Kimberley Walsh, Nadine Coyle, Nicola Roberts and the late Sarah Harding released the number one album after winning Popstars: The Rivals in 2003.

Significantly the release will be Cheryl’s first album release in nine years.

As well as including all of their iconic tracks, the Deluxe Edition will also include previously unheard songs and alternative mixes including Sound Of The Underground (Alternative Vocal Mix) which is available to stream now.

The announcement comes after Kimberley teased the release of unheard music.

Speaking to the MailOnline, she said: “We’ve got some fun alternative versions of songs lying around and little re-releases just to kind of mark that because, you know, it’s a big deal.

“20 years is a long time and the love that we still feel for Sound of the Underground and some of the songs from the first album are still huge. So it still feels like something to celebrate, but in a kind of sort of discreet way, I guess.”

The release follows the tragic death of Sarah Harding, who died of complications from breast cancer in September 2021.

Appropriately, the album is fronted by an old picture of the band with Sarah front and centre.

Girls Aloud’s Sound of the Underground (Deluxe Edition) re-issue will be released on June 16.
