Newcastle running shop Start Fitness teams up with national running club for Great North Run 'shake-out run'

The event will also involve running brand Brooks and will take place on the day before the half marathon.

Start Fitness, Newcastle’s largest running shop, has announced a collaboration with Fordy Runs Running Group and Brooks with the trio hosting a shake out run ahead of the 2023 Great North Run.

Shake out runs are popular across many of the world’s major running events including the London and New York City Marathons. Usually organised by shoe manufacturers and online influencers, the offer a way for runners to get involved in the atmosphere of large events before raceday and freshen up their bodies before taking part in a long run, whether it be a marathon or half marathon.

The shake out run will take place from Start Fitness’ shop on Market Street at 12 noon and is expected to be an easy 5k run around Newcastle.

Brooks will also be on site to offer runners the chance to use some of the running brand’s shoes as well as having experts on hand to offer advice on any shoe queries.

The run will be followed by refreshments and a live version of the award-winning running podcast - The Long Run Show, hosted by the Fordy Runs running group. The group is also a registered running club, Facebook community group and also boasts a podcast and YouTube channel with over 30,000 subscribers.

All attendees can pick up a free goody bag after the shakeout run with the whole event taking place on Saturday, September 9 – one day before the Great North Run.

Anyone wanting to take part in the full event including the podcast session needs to order a free online ticket. These are available through eventbrite.

Anyone only wanting to try out Brooks shoes and run the easy 5k does not.
