Northumbria Police have confirmed that a 77-year-old man has died following a road traffic collision in Newcastle.
Officers were called to Westgate Road, near the junction with Dunholme Road, at around 7.20pm on Friday, March 1, following a report that a black Mercedes people carrier/van had collided with a pedestrian.

Hide AdThe man was taken to hospital as a result of the incident and was sadly pronounced deceased.
Police have confirmed that his next of kin have been informed and they are currently being supported by specially-trained officers.
An investigation into the incident is now underway, with the driver of the vehicle remaining at the scene to assist officers with their inquiries.
As part of their investigation, Northumbria Police are appealing for any witnesses to come forward and speak to them as soon as possible.

Hide AdSergeant Ben Rutherford, from Northumbria Police’s Motor Patrols Department, said: “This is a tragic incident in which a man has sadly died and our thoughts are with his loved ones at this extremely difficult time.
“We will continue to support them in any way we can.
“A thorough investigation is under way to establish the circumstances around the collision.
“As part of this, we have spoken to a number of witnesses and are now appealing for anyone else who was in the area at the time and saw what happened to come forward.
