A Newcastle 5k road race has been officially recognised by World Athletics, the international governing body for track and field.

Scheduled for Wednesday, April 24, this event continues its tradition as one of the the premier 5k races in the region while achieving a significant milestone in the running community.

The event offers the chance for all runners to experience a race, with the Junior Quayside 3k catering to athletes in the U13, U15, and U17 categories.

"We're thrilled to receive World Athletics status for the Quayside 5k, underscoring our commitment to delivering top-level races that inspire and engage participants," said Chris Parr, Race Director at RunThrough. "This recognition not only elevates the event's profile but also signifies our dedication to fostering excellence in the running community."

As part of RunThrough's efforts to promote accessibility, the entry fee for the Junior Quayside 3k has been reduced to £5.

Organisers claim the-flat course along the Newcastle-Gateshead Quayside provides the ideal backdrop for a fast-paced race, showcasing iconic landmarks such as the Gateshead Millennium Bridge and the Tyne Bridge
