Travellers between Newcastle and North Tyne should expect trouble on the roads from today, as roadworks undertaken will close off Jesmond Dene Road. A portion of the road between its junctions with Osborne Road and Moorfield will be closed for 24 hours across an expected completion date of ten days.

The closures come as Northern Gas are set to dig up the road as part of their work on a main gas pipe in Newcastle, with work set to finish on November 11. Newcastle City Council has advised on their website though that there is no diversion in place, leaving travellers finding their own alternative means to make their commute.

The Jesmond Dene Road disruption comes amid a number of other closures and lane restrictions Newcastle is set to face in the run up to Christmas and New Year. The council has already advised of a number of road closures on Remembrance Sunday (November 13) and on Worswick Street between Pilgrim Street and Carliol Square until 2024.

Various roads around the Fenwick Christmas Display will also be closed on Sunday afternoon between 5.30pm and 9pm to allow Christmas display infrastructure to be constructed and for the hosting of a small number of guests permitted to watch the unveiling of the window display.

Newcastle City Council has offered a list of diversions for Newcastle drivers on their dedicated road closure page on their website, however those looking to travel from North Tyne into Newcastle for the next ten days might pay to plug in alternative routes on their GPS or through Google Maps.
