There have been some big cases over the last few days in the North East.

It has been a busy couple of weeks for the courts.

These are nine of the people jailed or given suspended sentences for offences in or around the North East throughout July so far.

They all appeared at Newcastle Crown Court unless otherwise stated.

Stewart Bestford, of Epsom Drive, Ashington, pleaded guilty to inflicting grievous bodily harm. He was sentenced to six years and 10 months in prison.

Connor Anderson has been jailed for three years for possession and intent to supply drugs after he drew the attention of the police through his bad driving. He was sentenced to three years behind bars.

Adbul Jilani deliberately drove at a parking officer after he gave him a ticket for parking illegally. He was jailed for 13 months with a 12 month road ban after release.

Hamilton, 39, of Scholars View, Hetton, was convicted of offences including rape after a trial, which he denied. He has been jailed for nine years.
