Television and music industry bigwig Simon Cowell has given a hint that geordie icon Cheryl Tweedy could make a return to television, in another judging role.

Cheryl Tweedy found fame as part of the chart-topping girl group Girls Aloud after securing a place in the band on Popstars: The Rivals in 2002.

However, in 2008 she explored a new venture as she took on a TV judge role on The X Factor UK, alongside Simon Cowell.

During Cheryl’s original stint on The X Factor UK from 2008 to 2010, she mentored two contestants that went on to win their series; Alexandra Burke and fellow geordie Joe McElderry.

Her presence on The X Factor UK led to Cheryl gaining the title of ‘the nation's sweetheart’, and the Heaton-born singer became even more popular after securing Beyonce to perform on the show alongside Alexandra Burke, in a now legendary X Factor moment.

Cheryl left the show after the 2010 series, and there were rumours of a feud between Cheryl and Simon, which Cheryl discussed in her 2012 autobiography My Story.

However, the pair reunited in 2014, as Cheryl rejoined The X Factor UK judging panel, before leaving again the following year.

Cheryl was also a judge on the short-lived BBC dance competition show, The Greatest Dancer - which was also created by Simon Cowell, alongside Oti Mabuse, Matthew Morrison and Todrick Hall.

Cheryl reunited with Simon on Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway’s final episode, and now, Simon has revealed to The Sun that he has plans to work with Cheryl again.

He said: "She hasn't changed at all. I miss her. We had great fun working together... so it was a bit of a reunion.

"Definitely, I would work with her again in the future with the right show because I think she was a really, really good judge."

Cheryl has recently reunited with Girls Aloud, who are set to embark on their UK tour The Girls Aloud Show in May. As part of their tour, they will perform in Cheryl’s home city of Newcastle on three dates; Friday, May 31, Saturday, June 1 and Sunday, June 2.
