The 10 Newcastle neighbourhoods where Covid rates are rising the fastest


Nearly 80% of England’s adult population are now fully vaccinated against Covid-19 and more than 11% have had their booster dose in time for winter.
Tens of thousands of people are still testing positive every day.

Hide AdHospitalisations and deaths continue to rise too. Latest Government figures show almost 7,000 people are in hospital with the disease, of which 799 are in medical ventilation beds.
There have now also been 122,145 deaths reported within 28 days of a positive test.
Neighbourhoods across England are also reporting high infection rates. There are now 250 neighbourhoods that have an infection rate above 1,000 per 100,000 people.
In Newcastle-upon-Tyne there have been 1,291 positive cases in the seven days to 22 October. This is a rate of 420.8.

1. South Jesmond & Sandyford
South Jesmond & Sandyford has seen rates of positive Covid cases rise by 155.6%, from 100.5 to 256.8.
2. Throckley & Newburn
Throckley & Newburn has seen rates of positive Covid cases rise by 78.8%, from 318.1 to 568.8.
3. North Jesmond
North Jesmond has seen rates of positive Covid cases rise by 69.9%, from 106.1 to 180.3.

5. Westerhope
Westerhope has seen rates of positive Covid cases rise by 50%, from 452 to 677.9.

7. Elswick
