You’d struggle to find a ground, particularly not in the Premier League, so close to the city centre, and as a result, within reach of so many city centre pubs, restaurants and bars.
One thing most football fans like, pre-match, anyway, is to warm up for the action they’re about to witness on the pitch, with a swift couple of beers off it.
I’m sure every fan this season, from Southampton on the first day, to Wimbledon in the cup, and everyone before and after, will take advantages of the fruits the city has to offer in this regard.
Here’s our list of the nine ‘must visit’ spots for a pre, or post-match pint.
1. The Strawberry
As a staple of NUFC culture, the iconic Strawberry is a must visit for all Newcastle fans. The walls are lined with memorabilia and the pub has been a part of club folklore for generations. Photo: Google
2. Rosie's Bar
A traditional old school boozer on the edge of Newcastle's Chinatown, Rosie's Bar is an ideal option just a short walk away from St James' Park. Photo: Google
3. Shark Club
Taking elements from gastropubs and American-style sports bars, Shark Club is a modern spin on a traditional experience. With big screens to watch the earlier kick offs, there are few better places to catch up with mates before heading to the match. Photo: Google
4. The Junction
Next to both Haymarket Metro station and Percy Street bus station, the Junction is an ideal matchday meeting point. The pub lies over two floors, leaving plenty of space for fans. Photo: Google
