The latest Covid hospitalisation data from Newcastle - and how the city continues to buck the trend

Covid hospitalisations in Newcastle are on the decrease despite rising winter fears about the virus spread.

Hospitalisations from Covid are DOWN in Newcastle week-on-week, the latest coronavirus data proves.

According the latest statistics, the Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals Trust was caring for 49 coronavirus patients in hospital as of Tuesday last week.

NHS England data shows the number of people being treated in hospital for Covid-19 by 8am on November 23 was down from 70 on the same day the previous week.

The number of beds at The Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust occupied by people who tested positive for Covid-19 decreased by 36% in the last four weeks – 28 days ago, there were 76.

Across England there were 6,257 people in hospital with Covid as of November 23, with 780 of them in mechanical ventilation beds.

The number of Covid-19 patients hospitalised nationally has decreased by 9% in the last four weeks, while the number on mechanical ventilators has decreased by 3%.

The figures also show that 33 new Covid patients were admitted to hospital in The Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in the week to November 21. This was down from 55 in the previous seven days.
