When it comes to naming your baby, it is one of life’s biggest choices. Some people choose to name their child after a loved one, while others choose a name simply because they like the sound of it! There are many reasons behind baby name choices.

The most popular baby name choices have been revealed by the Office of National Statistics, with two names continuing to come out on top year after year.

For baby girl names, Olivia is still the top choice in the North East with 167 babies being named Olivia last year. Other top choices included Rosie, Freya, Isla and Amelia. Olivia is the top baby name across the whole of the UK.

For baby boys, the top choice in the North East is George. 211 baby boys were named George last year. The top baby boy name in the UK is Noah, but it comes third in the North East list. Other popular baby boy names in the North East are Oliver, Harry, Charlie and Theo.

The UK graphic of the top ten baby names shows the addition of names not included in the North East list, such as Florence and Muhammed, as they are more popular in other areas.
