The Three Mile at Gosforth’s Great North Road has been awarded the title of North East Pub and Bar of the Year for Tyne and Wear by the National Pub and Bar Awards 2022.

The venue will join other regional winners at a red-carpet event in London later this year where another 15 regional awards and an overall winner’s title are up for grabs.

The Three Mile, formerly known as Three Mile Inn opened last spring after a £7.5million transformation and name change.

As part of the development, the venue opened a new restaurant and coffee shop, an extended terrace with external televisions and outdoor heating.

The site is also home to the four-star Great North Hotel, a 64-bedroom luxury establishment.

It marks the second year in a row for Malhorta Group plc enjoying success at the awards ceremony, with wins last year for Leila Lily’s at Newcastle’s Grey Street taking home the North East Pub and Bar of the Year for Tyne and Wear in 2021.

O’Hana said: “We looked at some wonderful venues across the Tyne and Wear area and the Malhotra Group was in the unique position of having a number of their sites being up against each other.

“Pubs and bars were judged on their overall offer and professionalism – and a huge thing we looked at this year was how quickly they returned to normality.

“The Three Mile has a really solid team and the Malhotra Group does a fantastic job of blending modern hospitality with the more traditional aspects, which is a huge USP for them.”

Sean Miller, business manager at Three Mile, said: “Tyne and Wear is home to a whole host of excellent bars and pubs so it’s amazing to beat off tough competition to take home such an impressive title,” he said.

“This award is a testament to the efforts of our whole team who go above and beyond to deliver the best possible customer service and experience and we’re also very grateful to our customers for all of their support.

“And, of course, the last few years have provided unique challenges across the entire hospitality industry, so it’s a great boost to have the Three Mile recognised in this way.”
