A hair-raising zip wire that starts at the Tyne Bridge and travels over the Quayside will open to the public this summer.

NE1 has unveiled their full programme for Summer in the City which will see Newcastle's iconic Quayside turned into a hubbub of activity and fun for all the family.

The highlight of the events is sure to be the zip wire which will give Geordies an unforgettable view over the River Tyne, if brave enough to face the heights.

Adrenaline junkies can take on the zipwire on the two last weekends of August for a price of £35. Bookings must be made in advance, with a reservation system launched soon.

It's the only paid activity that NE1 will put on over the next six weeks, with other attractions all running for free.

A 'linear park' stretching for one kilometre from the Guildhall to beyond Pitcher and Piano will see plentiful colourful seating, astroturf and plants adorn the footpath.

There will also be over 110 free classes during the school holidays, scheduled and bookable online, from meditation, yoga and fitness classes to children’s storytelling, dance classes and arts and crafts.

NE1 has teamed up with businesses across the city to help deliver the packed programme of activities and workshops for people of all ages.

Monday Morning Mindfulness at 8:30 am will kickstart the week, with the Quayside also providing the backdrop for lunchtime, evening and weekend fitness and yoga sessions.

Office workers wanting to unwind will be able to join sundowner yoga at 6 pm and meditation at 7 pm every Thursday. For those who can’t make Thursdays, free yoga classes will also run at 9 am on Saturdays and midday on Tuesdays, all delivered by Yoga Therapies.

Anyone wanting a higher-intensity workout can enjoy High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) classes, delivered by the City Baths, who will also be running Age Well fitness sessions on Wednesdays.

Friday mornings will be devoted to NE1’s family fitness sessions with the Newcastle United Foundation, and locally trained instructors will get temperatures rising with salsa classes.

Children can also make the most of a climbing wall which will arrive on the Quayside on two Saturdays over the next six weeks.

Tours of some of the city’s most historic buildings including, the Guildhall and All Saints Church will also be on offer, thanks to Newcastle City Guides, and two tours of Grey’s Monument will be provided by Iles Tours.
