Travel chaos expected ahead of Newcastle United Champions League tie with PSG

Major travel disruption is expected across Newcastle on Wednesday.

As Newcastle United prepare for their first home Champions League game in 20 years football fans have been warned about the potential travel disruption to the historic evening.

Usual train and bus services will be interrupted as employees of both Northern Rail and Go North East will be on strike on Wednesday.

Bus depots affected by the strike action include Gateshead, Sunderland, Washington, Consett and Hexham.

Many services are expected to be cancelled and so Newcastle City Council have said it will extend the opening hours of its car parks to cope with the extra traffic.

Car Parks including Eldon Square, Spillers and Manor will be open until midnight, however the council has warned fans to leave plenty of time to travel to St James’ Park.

Nexus have also warned match-goers the Metro is also expected to be extremely busy and that journeys should be planned accordingly.

United’s game against Paris Saint-Germain kicks off at 8pm.
