Ethan Hall Lyon and his brother, Lewis, are set to take on the National Three Peaks Challenge in an effort to raise money for the Newcastle Hospitals Charity.

The two brothers are aiming to climb the three highest mountains in England, Scotland and Wales within a 24-hour period on Thursday, July 18.

To make the gruelling challenge even harder, the brothers will be wearing rucksacks and a 15kg weighed vest each while they scale Scafell Pike, Snowdon and Ben Nevis.

Ethan has spoken to NewcastleWorld to explain where the idea for the mammoth challenge came from and how they are preparing for it.

The 23-year-old commented: "We both love doing physical challenges and are always pushing ourselves to the limit so when we decided to do this, we thought it would be a good idea to do it for a charity.

"When we did more digging into what the charity actually does, we knew that it was the perfect one for us.

"So far training for the challenge is going well, we're quite active anyway but we are focusing on doing more cardio and have been using the stepping machine in the gym a lot more.

"We've also been going on walks while wearing the weighted vests and you don't realise how difficult that is to do until you actually do it."

The pair initially set themselves a fundraising target of £1,000 but are aiming to up that to around £2,000/£3,000 following a successful early influx of donations.

Ethan added: "So far we've just been sharing the fundraiser on Facebook where family and friends have been donating, with the aim of raising £1,000.

"However we've got off to a good start so we are now trying to raise even more money, with the target now around £2,000 or £3,000.

"I've been quite surprised at how generous people have been so hopefully we will be able to raise even more."
