UK weather: Arctic blast on the way but will Newcastle feel the chill?

The UK is bracing itself for heavy snow and temperatures low as -10°C at the beginning of February.

The conditions are the result of a weather system moving southwards from the Arctic.

The worst of the snow looks set to miss the north east region, but there’s still a chance of seeing some of the white stuff by the end of the month.

According to weather exports WXCharts, Newcastle and the surrounding area could see up to half a centimeter of snow, making for at least a dusting in our area.

The week ahead looks set to start off cold and dry, but get gradually warmer as we approach the weekend.

Temperatures will drop to around 3/4°C tonight (Tuesday) and won’t start to rise until midday tomorrow.

Wednesday will have more clouds around and slightly milder temperatures of 8/9°C.

Much of the cloud will lift into Thursday and this should lead to plenty of sunshine during the afternoon into early evening, although it may ‘feel’ as cold as 4°C in some parts of the region.

The cloud will return on Friday but there shouldn’t be too much change to the temperature until Saturday, when we could see highs of 11°C.

Tonight:

Staying dry and mostly cloudy overnight. A few breaks are likely in the cloud, mostly to the lee of hills, where it will turn locally chilly, with a patchy ground frost. Minimum temperature 1 °C.

Tuesday:

Similar conditions on Tuesday, remaining dry and mostly cloudy. A few breaks in the cloud, mostly to the lee of hills, with occasional bright or sunny spells. Temperatures near average. Maximum temperature 8 °C.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:

Fine and dry at first on Wednesday, before rain and strong winds move southwards later. Dry and bright on Thursday. Feeling cold. Mostly dry on Friday, before clouding over later.
