Watch as we ask the people of Newcastle who their favourite North East celebrity is

The North East is home to many iconic celebrities, ranging from actors, football stars, comedians, singers and more.

We took to the streets of Newcastle, to ask residents passing through the city, who their personal favourite celebrity is, that has been born and raised in the North East prior to finding fame. 

While Newcastle is the home city of many iconic celebrities including Ant and Dec and Cheryl Tweedy, the people we chatted to cast their minds further afield, with the three celebrities all hailing from South Shields.

Maddie said: “It’s probably Sarah Millican. She makes me laugh and we all need to laugh a lot more, especially me!”

Brenda said that her favourite was the X Factor UK 2009 winner, Joe McElderry as she said: “Well, I like Joe McElderry!”

Graeme chose the iconic film director Sir Ridley Scott, who is known for the Alien franchise and much more. He said: “Ridley Scott, I guess. South Shields lad! He’s done alright for himself.”

Graeme commented on the success people from the North East have found, as he said: “I quite like to see people from the North East do really well.”
