The latest COVID data has shown that the number of daily cases has risen to 150 in Newcastle.

The rate in the North East is also on the up with 1154 new cases recorded in the last seven days.

Meanwhile, organisations across the region have been awarded £462,000 as part of a project that is focusing on protecting women and girls at night.

Newcastle City Council will receive £109,642 to fund things like improved streetlights, CCTV and educational programmes.

The bid that will include initiatives like drink spiking detection kits, staff to support safe taxi journeys and a transport safety campaign.

And finally, the fire service attended a large fire in Byker along St Lawrence Road.

Smoke could be seen from Gateshead but firefighters were quickly on the scene and tackled the huge blaze before bringing it under control.
