North East bus services could see major cuts as local leaders plea for ministers to keep the Covid bailout funding to help the Tyne and Wear metro network.

The £20 million was given as a bailout during the pandemic but it could see services from Nexus such as the Shields Ferry cut to keep the Metro service running.

Meanwhile, Newcastle RVI has unveiled a first look at the £190 million new wing.

The proposed Richardson Wing is part of the government’s project to build 40 new hospitals by 2030 and it is hoped that the new building will help the hospital tackle huge waiting lists caused by delays during the pandemic.

And finally, an inquiry into plans to build a Burger King drive thru at a closed police station will be held this week.

Newcastle City Council originally rejected the scheme last year but the developer appealed so they will have the chance to attend an inquiry to give their case.
