After record-breaking temperatures and recent thunderstorms, a more settled weather looks set to be on the horizon for Newcastle, just in time for the August bank holiday.

And residents in Newcastle are undoubtedly hoping to cap off their summer in style, with good weather determining family plans or last-minute get-togethers with friends.

While much of the UK saw significant rainfall on Thursday, August 25 and Friday, August 26, Newcastle has been fortunate with clear weather, which is expected to continue.

Now that we look forward to a three-day weekend from August 27 to August 29 - the last bank holiday before Christmas - can we expect some nice weather as well?

What does Bank Holiday weekend look like in Newcastle?

According to the Met Office, while it’s been a muggy week so far, with rain affecting the western and northern regions of the UK, the remainder of the week will see the rain move eastward.

The Met Office is currently anticipating more settled weather with warm sunny breaks over the Bank Holiday weekend. Showers are possible, but they are most likely to occur before the weekend.

Sunday is expected to be gloomy, with temperatures slightly above average in the south and Bank Holiday Monday should be fine and dry.

What is the weather forecast for Bank Holiday weekend in Newcastle?

Thursday, August 25

Overnight will be dry and mostly clear. However, cloud cover will thicken during the early hours, raising the possibility of a spot of light rain by morning. Minimum temperature is 10°C.

Friday, August 26

Friday: Generally cloudy with a chance of showers throughout the day, but feeling reasonably pleasant with low winds. Maximum temperature is 21°C.

Saturday, August 27, Sunday August 28, Monday August 29

Saturday and Sunday will be sunny, with a chance of afternoon showers in some areas. Sunday and Monday will be mostly dry with sunny breaks.

Temperatures are close to normal.

What is the weather like after the August Bank Holiday?

August 29 to September 7

This period begins cloudy and showery in the northwest. Meanwhile, elsewhere it will be dry and bright, with a chance of light and brief showers.

Throughout the week, high pressure builds, bringing fine and dry weather to most regions, but with the possibility of rain in the northwest at times and showers in the south and east.

The end of this period could be marked by a shift to more unsettled weather, most likely in the north and west, with the south and east seeing the most dry weather.

Temperatures will be near average in the north but somewhat warm in the south, growing warmer and locally hot in spots over the period. Winds are normally light, but they can be moderate and variable at times.
